Simply phone or send an email, mentioning the specific painting you are interested in. I also recommend a tour of the studio, because some of the paintings have many details that are not visible in the photos and viewing the painting in person is an entirely different experience.
About the origin of a painting:
At the beginning of each painting there is a thought, an idea that I draw in a small sketchbook. I then create a smaller version of the image in pastel, a sketch, to get an idea of what the painting will look like. Then I start painting on the canvas. I paint in several layers. Even though I often work on paintings intensively, because of the demanding compositions and numerous details, such a painting sometimes takes several months to complete. I enjoy the process, both the painting itself and the preparation, frequently acting as my own model. I often have a photographer, Vít Černý, on hand to take photos of, for example, knights I have asked to work with me, and for an hour they were fighting and rolling around on the ground like corpses in front of us, and from the photos I put together a crowd scene for the painting Battle.
Framing and glazing
The frame as a work of art. Choosing the right frame is often a difficult task, but it’s definitely something I care deeply about. It not only accompanies the work, but elevates the image itself. How does one choose the right frame? I can solve all this on an individual basis, preferably directly in the frame shop, over coffee, to try out different types, or if you live further away, I will contact you by phone and discuss your ideas for a frame.
A pastel work should be behind glass, as the image needs to be protected from mechanical damage and blurring. I have my paintings glazed with gallery glass, which absorbs most of the reflection. If you stand directly in front of the painting, you don’t even notice the glass and don’t feel any screen between you and the work.
